I would like to find out if a school runs a milk scheme.
Contact the school or the LEA to ask what schemes are available.
Alternatively, contact the School Milk Project by clicking here, and we should be able to advise you.
I would like my child to receive milk at school.
You can approach the Head Teacher and talk to them about milk. You can download the Letter to Parents and ask the school if they would use it to canvass parents, to see if a milk scheme would be viable.
Alternatively, you can contact the School Milk Project, with the school’s details and we will contact the school on your behalf.
What types of milk schemes are there?
(see the LEA trail for
more details)
There are five main types,
1. An Individual School Scheme
2. A Subsidised School Scheme
3. Free Milk for the Under Fives.
4. Administration Scheme
5. Free Milk for KS1 children (Wales only)
Not all LEAs offer a subsidised milk scheme within their area but Individual School Schemes can be run in any school. This can give an opportunity to raise money for extra resources. Schools can also run Schemes through Healthy Tuck Shops or Breakfast Clubs. School Caterers could also be involved in running any of the schemes, depending on the arrangements in the school.
How can I help?
You can help your School by supporting the setting up of a Scheme. This can be done on an individual basis or through a PTA type of organisation. You may also be able to help the school with some practical support in running the scheme.
